Heather Watson makes it to Wimbledon singles last 16 for first time.

Heather Watson today reached a career milestone after her win over Kaja Juvan saw her into the last 16 at Wimbledon for the first time.

She beat the Slovenian in straight sets, 7-6 6-2, seeing her into the second week of the Ladies Championship for the first time since going pro in 2010.

This isn’t her first time seeing the second week at the All England Club however, as she won the Mixed Doubles title there in 2016 when she partnered with Henri Kontinen of Finland, and she found herself back there in the Ladies Doubles in 2018 where she made it to the Quarter Final with Tatjana Maria of Germany.

It’s not just a milestone for her at Wimbledon, it’s a milestone for her across all of the Slams in the singles. She’s yet to make it past the 2nd round at the US or French Open, and the 3rd round is her record at the Australian.

Heather will next face Germany’s Jule Niemeier in a bid to make it to the Quarter Finals, but getting to the Fourth Round has secured her prize money of £190,000.
